We are responsible for a number of faith-based anti-poverty initiatives which support local people to bring about transformation in Scotland’s poorest communities.
Three factors underpin our work, which is informed by academic research as well as practical experience and knowledge.
1. Focus on the poorest: we target our work in the poorest 5% of communities [according to the 2006 Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation] recognising that the Scottish Government’s aspiration for a fairer Scotland will fail unless there is real and sustainable change in these areas.
2. Faith in Action: faith groups are already making a huge difference, providing a wide range of vital support and resources – including volunteers and buildings – in our poorest neighbourhoods. However, there is a great deal more that we must, and can, do.
3. A changing society: the nationalities, cultures and faiths of our country are changing and will continue to change rapidly in the future.
