The befriending service offered by Amina seeks to reduce the isolation often experience by women in the community. These women are isolated due to factors such as migration and family breakdown which may be aggravated by racism and Islamophobia. Some have mental health problems and many are living in extreme poverty. Through the befriending service, their quality of life may be significantly enhanced.
“The FiSCAF grant has enabled us to launch our befriending service in Glasgow. Our community will be filled with more happy faces, not only the women but other members of their family will benefit.”
Amina Muslim Women’s Resource Centre received a grant of £10,000 over two years towards salary costs of a Coordinator to develop and run a befriending scheme for isolated Muslim women.
